Do I have to run on trail? Only if you want to. DFL's are a thing for a reason and there's no shame in just enjoying a day out on trail with friends at your own pace.

I don't have a sponsor OR I met this weird, but kind of cool, person who told me about hashing, but we were both drunk at a bar and I don't remember their name or how to get a hold of them, but I do want to learn more and / or come out to a trail.
